A few more report backs:

Rep. Doolittle CA-4
Janice in California visited Rep. Doolittle’s office and talked with his staffer Frank about media consolidation. She delivered the petitions and urged Rep. Doolittle to help keep the airwaves open for local voices and local news.

Rep. Keller FL-08
Lisa Tillman, chair of Critical Media and Cultural Studies department at Rollins College, met with Rep. Keller’s staff member Eddie Array. She discussed some of the research that has documented the dangerous impact of media consolidation and reported back that Mr. Arraya seemed receptive and interested. She is following up with more info for him.

Rep. Feeney FL-24
In Orlando, Anna Elias and her husband stopped in at Rep.Feeney’s office and delivered a number of pages of petitions. They took a few minutes to talk about why they care about these issues, and Rep. Feeney’s staff promised to pass the petition on to him.

Another update from Jeff Smith of the great Michigan organization Media Mouse:

He blogged about his visit, noting that:
Those who delivered the petitions stated that they were opposed to the FCC decision because "it limits the amount of voices that the public will hear in media." Another person expressed that further media ownership consolidation means that "less emphasis will be put on local news and that the further downsizing of newsrooms will mean less investigative reporting on important issues like elections, war, the environment, and economic issues."

Quick update from Jim Haigh of the Mid Atlantic Community Paper's Association:

Jim visited Rep. Dent in Pennsylvania and met will staffer, Michael Cary. Jim said that that Dent's staff were receptive and really understood the issue. Cary, a lifelong resident of the district, seemed really concerned with the way the media was serving the people in Rep. Dent's district. He and Jim talked a lot about how the cross-ownership in Pennsylvania would hurt small business and gut competition in the local media market. Overall, it sounds like it was a very productive meeting.

Jim is interested in collecting editorials on this issue and will help to place them in your local community papers. For more info check out http://www.macpa.net
