Who owns the media?

Radio

Radio concentration has been rampant in the 10 years since the 1996 Telecommunications Act was passed. Before this legislation lifted caps on ownership, no single radio corporation held more than 65 stations. Today, one -- Clear Channel Communications -- controls more than 1,200.

Without limits to ownership these radio conglomerates continue to steamroll local radio, buying up independent outlets and scrubbing homegrown artists and news reporting from the air.
